What are implants?
Dental implants can be used to replace single or multiple missing teeth and are an increasingly popular alternative to traditional tooth replacement options such as bridges or dentures. They can even replace an entire arch!
Implants have several components
- A fixture (or implant body) made from biocompatible surgical grade titanium artificially replaces tooth roots and provides an anchor for the overlying prostheses.
- An abutment serves to connect the implant body and the artificial crowns, bridges or dentures.
- The crown, bridge or denture which replaces your missing teeth to give you back your full smile!

Single or Multiple Implants
If you’re missing one or a few teeth, a dental implant can be a great option without having to remove any tooth structure from your adjacent teeth or getting a denture.
The number of implants required to replace multiple missing teeth varies depending on the location of the teeth and biting patterns of the patient.
- For single missing teeth, a single implant and crown are required.
- For multiple missing teeth in a row, a bridge is required with a minimum of 2 implants.
Why choose a dental implant over a traditional bridge?
- Implants help maintain and keep your jawbone intact
- No need to sacrifice the health of adjacent teeth
- Longer average lifespan
- Better aesthetic and functional properties

Implant Supported Dentures
Bridges and crowns, even implant-supported, cannot help to mask any gum tissue or bone loss like dentures can.
Fortunately, you can also have implant supported dentures. These dentures are made to fit over your implants which provide added support and can help people missing multiple or all teeth in an arch.
Why choose an overdenture over a traditional denture?
- Slows bone loss in your jaw
- Minimal speech impediment
- Significantly more comfortable to help you keep eating the food you love
- They can be removable or semi-fixed for easy cleaning
- Better retention and stability

Bone Grafting
Bone grafts are usually used post extraction (after removing a tooth) to preserve the socket or when the quantity (width and depth) of your bone is not sufficient to support and stabilise an implant in long-term. Your dentist will inform you if this is necessary during the planning phase of your implant treatment or before removing your tooth.
There are several types of bone graft materials such as:
- Autograft , which are taken from donor site of the same patient.
- Allograft, which are taken from another individual and transplanted in the patient.
- Xenograft , which is taken from another species (such as bovine and porcine) and transplanted in the patient.
- Alloplastic materials are synthetically produced from calcium phosphate.
At Castle Hill Dental care we use only the best, proven materials so our patients can benefit from predictable results every time. Our dentists are trained in utilizing all types of bone graft materials which help to stimulate the growth of new, strong bone.
With modern advances in dentistry, bone grafting can now give more of our patients the option to have dental implants.

Frequently Asked Questions
How long do dental implants last?
Implants are a long-term commitment and can be expected to last 20 years to a lifetime with proper oral hygiene and care. The overlying artificial tooth can be expected to last 5-15 years depending on how well it is cared for.
Just like normal teeth, implants can be affected by bone or gum disease, so it’s important to regularly visit your dentist for a comprehensive examination and clean.
How long does it take to recover from implant treatment?
If a bone grafting procedure is required prior to implant placement, a healing period of 6 months is typically required prior to placement of the implant. Following this, the implant typically requires 3-6 months for an implant to integrate with your jawbone and strengthen sufficiently to support your overlying tooth replacements.
Is dental implant right for me?
Do you want a natural smile? Are you embarrassed by your smile? Do you want a hassle-free replacement for your missing teeth? If your answer is “Yes” to one or more of these questions, then dental implants are right for you.
How much do dental implants cost?
Implants can cost from $4,500* per implant including the overlying crown. However, every patient treatment requirement is different and additional implant site preparation (such as bone graft) may be required which may attract additional cost.
We understand that implants are an investment and always endeavour to provide our patients with access to the best possible treatment. So, at Castle Hill Dental Care, we offer flexible INTEREST-FREE payment plans to help get you on your way to having your dream smile!
