What is a Dental Implant?

Think of a dental implant as an artificial tooth root, providing a strong and stable foundation for a replacement tooth. Here’s how it works:

  • The Fixture (Implant Body): Crafted from biocompatible surgical-grade titanium, this core is precisely placed in your jawbone where a tooth is missing. Over a short period, it naturally fuses with your bone and gums, creating a secure anchor.
  • The Abutment: This crucial connector links the titanium fixture to the visible replacement tooth (crown, bridge, or denture).
  • The Crown, Bridge, or Denture: This is the custom-designed artificial tooth or set of teeth that is securely attached to the abutment, giving you back a complete and natural-looking smile.

CHOOSING THE RIGHT DENTAL IMPLANT FOR YOU

UNDERSTANDING THE DENTAL IMPLANTS PROCEDURE

1
Consultation

We will listen to your concerns and expectations and Dr Jaafar will then do a comprehensive examination & assess your suitability for dental implants. We will take a cone beam (3d) digital x-ray to assess your bone quality and quantity. This will help us to do accurate treatment planning. We will then book your next appointment to discuss your options with you.

2
Planning and discussion

Your dentist will discuss your treatment options with you in detail, so that you can make an informed decision. This is the most important appointment, as we need to decide on a treatment that meets your expectations. It’s important not to rush through this stage and we will give you time to ask all your questions. One thing you may wish to discuss is if you wish to have your next appointment (implant placement) under Sleep Dentistry (IV Sedation) or local anaesthetic.

3
IMPLANT PLACEMENT

At this appointment we will place your implant. This can be done under Sleep dentistry (IV Sedation) or local anaesthetic. If the implant is for a single tooth, then the procedure is fairly straightforward as the implant will be surgically inserted in the gap left behind by the missing tooth. Dr Jaafar will either use surgical guide or make a small incision in your gum and then places the dental implant or dental implants.

4
IMPLANT IMPRESSION

Next, we will take an impression of your dental implant/implants.  This is for designing and manufacturing your crown, bridge, or denture.  At this appointment it is important to choose the correct and desired colour/shade.  Remember, the colour or shade of your crown/bridge or denture does not change by teeth whitening. Don’t worry, the expert team at Castle Hill Dental Care will be able to help you make this decision.

5
FITTING

Dr Jaafar will place your crown, bridge or denture and will give you detailed instructions on how to care for them. Following these instructions at home is the key to success. Dental implants are a long-term solution and can last up to 25 years, with proper care. Congratulations on your beautiful new smile and thank you for trusting us.
